Ram unveils its new 1500 Revolution BEV Prototype Pick-up truck at the CES 2023

0

Ram showcased its 1500 Revolution BEV prototype at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show, introducing yet another electric truck. It serves as a preview of an electric 1500 pickup that will be available in 2024, providing insight into the company’s future intentions and design approach.

For a streamlined design, the EV has a long wheelbase and a slanted windscreen. The front end is blacked out, with an illuminated emblem between the LED headlights, which are designed in the shape of a tuning fork. The taillights and the Ram symbol on the tailgate also use LEDs. The bumper features a huge skid plate with integrated tow hooks.

The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV idea is an all-wheel drive electric car based on the STLA Frame EV body-on-frame chassis. It is propelled by two electric motors, one on each axle. While no power outputs or performance figures were disclosed, Ram says that their 800-volt DC rapid charging system can absorb up to 350 kW of power and provide up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

The car also boasts rear-wheel steering with up to 15 degrees of freedom for better mobility in compact areas and at low speeds, as well as an air suspension with three settings: ingress/egress, aero, and off-road.

The Revolution has a charging port, a motorised trunk, flush door handles, side steps, and a rear step. Many of these features are expected to be included in the production version, particularly on higher trim levels. The tailgate, like barn doors, can open outward to increase the length of the bed and enable for the carriage of greater cargo.

The Revolution also features coach doors, which open in the opposite direction as the front doors. Ram may now remove the B-pillar, making it easier to access and depart the car.

The 1500 Revolution has 35-inch tyres on 24-inch wheels with lit stationary centre caps that spin with the wheel, similar to those found on Rolls-Royces. Because of the EV drivetrain, the design team was able to make the cabin four inches longer than the present petrol model, adding a substantial amount of extra space. There’s also a frunk and what the firm refers to as “Ram Track,” which is a rail connection that allows for seat and storage flexibility.

The rails remain in the trunk, assisting with item security. The lightweight seats include integrated seatbelts, grab grips, and speakers and can be folded flat or removed completely.

Ram

The truck, like the Subaru Brat from the 1970s, includes optional third-row jump seats in the motorised mid-gate that can be linked to the bed. Ram has not released any images of the jump seats, but the mid-gate is rumoured to include a pass-through to the front trunk (or “frunk”). This feature, first seen on the Bollinger B2, enables for the delivery of objects up to 18 feet in length.

The centre console can be removed to provide extra space inside the vehicle, and the armrest can be transformed into a workstation, in keeping with the concept of a configurable cabin. The dashboard is designed with a “tuning fork” motif, orange ambient lighting, and a twin display layout with a combined screen size of 28 inches.

Peugeot debuts its new Inception concept at the CES 2023

0

The Peugeot Inception concept debuted at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show. This latest concept from the French manufacturer is a beautiful new sedan that incorporates some of the early design aspects of Stellantis’ future STLA Large platform. The STLA Big platform, as the name implies, is intended to support the construction of large vehicles, perhaps including Peugeot’s most stunning models. The Peugeot Inception concept car is five metres long, but the design will be carried across to the full range beginning in 2025, including the smallest vehicles.

The Inception is outfitted with a 100kWh 800V battery that Peugeot claims will give it an 800km range (497 miles). The battery drives two electric motors, one in front and one in back, allowing for all-wheel drive. These motors provide “almost 670 horsepower” when combined, allowing the Inception to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than three seconds.

Peugeot claims that the Inception can charge at a rate of up to 30km (18miles) per minute, putting the charging speed at 225kW. The design also includes wireless charging, although no time estimates have been provided.

Peugeot
credit: arenaev

The Peugeot Inception has a “feline stance,” according to the automaker. The front has vertical three-bar running lights and a blanked-off grille that houses the sensors for the vehicle’s driver assistance systems. A blanked-off lower section of the grille houses the car’s powerplant. The back of the vehicle has comparable taillights hidden behind a smooth glass panel.

The “smart glazing” element of the Inception, which incorporates 7.25m2 of unique glass with increased thermal qualities and iridescent reflections, is unlikely to emerge in exactly this form on any future production vehicles. The Inception, on the other hand, has various technological capabilities that may or may not reach it to production.

The doors of the Inception contain a horizontal “Tech bar” that can show messages to those outside the vehicle. These messages could contain a greeting or farewell, as well as information regarding the remaining range of the vehicle. When the driver approaches, the vehicle’s artificial intelligence system can alter the seat position, temperature, driving mode, and entertainment selections accordingly.

The Inception’s interior has the most recent iteration of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit layout, as well as Hypersquare – a rectangular steering wheel with touch controls in each of its four corners. These controls allow the driver to access the vehicle’s key features without taking their hands off the wheel. Peugeot intends to include the Hypersquare into one of its production vehicles by 2026.

Peugeot
credit: arenaev

Peugeot was able to build a revolutionary cabin architecture thanks to the Inception’s use of steer-by-wire technology (in which there is no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels). The most recent i-Cockpit configuration utilises the STLA Smart Cockpit software platform, which focuses on speech, gesture, and touch interfaces. It also features STLA Brain, Stellantis’ fundamental on-demand offering.

The Hypersquare is controlled by a smart Halo Cluster screen that is located behind it. Stellantis’ STLA AutoDrive technology also provides Level 4 autonomous driving capability to the vehicle. When this feature is turned on, the Hypersquare retracts under the dashboard and a massive panoramic screen rises from the floor, altering the atmosphere and user experience.

Volkswagen ID.7 renders shows an Arteon Successor is on its way

0

The ID.7, the largest German automaker’s all-electric successor to the elegant Volkswagen Arteon, has finally been introduced. The formal presentation, which took place earlier this week at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, only displayed the electric sedan with a pretty unusual type of digital camouflage, implying that the final design of the VW ID.7 was barely discernible.

Volkswagen
credit: notebookcheck

The creative graphic designers at Kolesa, on the other hand, have recently published two unofficial render photos of the Volkswagen ID.7 in all its splendour and without any camouflage.

The images depict the electric Arteon successor, which will have a remarkable WLTP range of 435 miles per charge and will be painted in a rather conservative white. Furthermore, the EV incorporates some design ideas from the VW ID. Aero concept car, which we covered last year.

Volkswagen
credit: notebookcheck

The taillights of the over 200-inch-long VW ID.7 are merged into a black bar that spans the whole rear of the vehicle. Furthermore, the electric car has a black rear bumper, which was present on the ID. Aero but appeared much more elegant than on the ID.7. If this rumoured design is accurate, the design of Volkswagen’s newest EV will be a matter of taste, as the company does not adhere to the elegant design language that made the VW Arteon a real eye-catcher.

Verge TS Ultra Electric Motorcycle with 223 miles of Range launched at the CES 2023

0

This year’s CES in Las Vegas has already seen a slew of exciting product announcements and launches in the consumer electronics sector, which includes not only laptops and other mobile devices but also electric vehicles. Aside from established carmakers like BMW and Volkswagen, Verge Motorcycles, a lesser-known company, is also present at the popular trade show and has just unveiled its latest and most impressive electric two-wheeler yet.

This new EV is known as the Verge TS Ultra, and it is essentially an upgraded version of the Verge TS and the more powerful Verge TS Pro, which have only been available in select European markets.

Verge
credit: notebookcheck

The Ultra’s most striking feature, like its “tamer” predecessors, is arguably the futuristic in-wheel motor, which now allegedly peaks at 201 horsepower and can propel the electric motorcycle from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. The maximum torque output of the electric bike is 1,200 Nm (885 ft lb), and the top speed is rated at 124 mph.

On longer rides, the electric motorcycle can travel up to 233 miles on a single charge, and charging the battery from 0 to 80 percent takes only 25 minutes. Given these high-end specifications, it’s not surprising that the Verge TS Ultra starts at US$44,900. The electric superbike’s first deliveries are reportedly scheduled for Spring 2023, but the official configurator indicates that new orders from US buyers will be fulfilled in the fourth quarter of this year.

BYD reveals its new E4 Quad Motor Platform for heavy-performance vehicles

0
BYD
credit: notebookcheck

BYD, the world’s largest EV manufacturer, took the stage to unveil its new e4 quad-motor platform for performance vehicles, the first of which – a massive 5-meter electric offroad SUV and a fast hypercar – will be released under the newly minted Yangwang brand. Unlike gas-powered AWD solutions, the e4 platform enables for separate torque and vectoring adjustments of each wheel down to the millisecond period, boosting stability, grip, and offroad capabilities.

The Yangwang U8 SUV displayed this as it entered the stage in a crabwalk fashion, and in the event of a tyre explosion, the three remaining wheels may alter their torque many times per second until the vehicle comes to a safe halt. Given the scarcity of truly off-road electric SUVs, the U8 might become a one-of-a-kind offering with its 18-foot-long body that can still turn on a dime thanks to the wheel motors’ independent torque vectoring.

BYD
credit: notebookcheck

The BYD SUV will first be sold for the equivalent of US$145,000.

The U9 hypercar, on the other hand, appears to be in the idea stage, but the e4 quad-motor platform, which may otherwise deliver up to 1,100 HP, will allow it to stop from 100 km/h in 40 metres even if both the brakes and the steering wheel are inoperable.

BYD
credit: notebookcheck

In addition to all of that independence, the new BYD drivetrain will be water-resistant, with IP68 certification, providing cars built on it with flotation qualities in emergency scenarios. The platform can produce up to 20,500 revolutions per minute, allowing the hefty U8 SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under four seconds, while the nimbler hypercar could accelerate in less than three seconds. The e4 vehicles will be offered through specific dealers and channels, but BYD is keeping the exact U8 delivery date under wraps for the time being.

BMW I Vision Dee Concept shows off Car that literally Changes its Color

0
Vision Dee
credit: arenaev

BMW introduced its I Vision Dynamics electric concept vehicle, calling it the “next level of human-machine interaction,” according to the German automaker. This car foreshadows the high-tech future for the BMW 3 Series.

The four-door sedan concept is based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, which will enable a wide range of future BMW vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and electric powertrains. This platform will enter production in 2025 to replace the recently released BMW i3 electric sedan in the Chinese market.

Among the new digital features on the I Vision Dee is a head-up display that projected information across the full windscreen. According to BMW, this will be included in vehicles based on the Neue Klasse platform that will be delivered in the mid-decade.

The concept’s moniker, which stands for Digital Emotional Experience, hints at the new exterior design language that BMW intends to utilise on future production models.

Vision Dee
credit: arenaev

The outward design is similar to the BMW Circular concept car displayed at the 2021 Munich Motor Show, with a redesigned enclosed front with digital panels replacing the conventional kidney grille. LED headlights serve as “phygital” (physical-digital) icons on these panels.

The headlights change shape and size depending on the task at hand, and they show a visual greeting as the vehicle arrives or departs. According to BMW, this gives the concept its own distinct face expressions. The I Vision Dee’s bonnet has a deeper centre scallop, and the sides are smooth with no feature lines.

In contrast to current production BMWs, which have a higher side window line, the new concept has a lower one. Full-color avatars of the driver, personalised welcome messages, and digital symbols can also be displayed on the windscreen, taking full advantage of the extra space.

Vision Dee
credit: arenaev

The proposal also includes an e-ink overlay that enables for the incorporation of various patterns and phygital iconography into various portions of the exterior. The C-pillar is one of these sections, and it has a digital replica of BMW’s traditional Hofmeister kink design element. At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, this capability was initially demonstrated with the color-changing iX concept.

The I Vision Dee’s front design is mirrored in the rear, with two new light panels divided in the centre and placed into a high-set trunk lid. The concept’s low hood, long wheelbase, and lack of overhangs imply somewhat changed three-box proportions for future BMW sedans.

Vision Dee
credit: arenaev

The I Vision Dee is also a demonstration of BMW’s future operating system, which will power the brand’s next generation of automobiles. BMW intends to discontinue the central infotainment display, which has been standard in its vehicles since the fourth-generation BMW 7 Series debuted in 2001. Instead, the new head-up display will be the system’s main point.

BMW wants to give drivers complete control over the amount of information and distractions they are exposed to while driving. Drivers can modify the amount of content displayed on the windscreen using a feature called “Mixed Reality Slider,” according to the manufacturer.

The I Vision Dee is the second of three concept vehicles developed by BMW to exhibit products based on the Neue Klasse platform. The first, the I Vision Circular, was concerned with the utilisation of recycled materials in construction. A third concept car, focusing on battery and drivetrain innovations, is anticipated to be presented later this year.

Vision Dee
credit: arenaev

The I Vision Dee’s drivetrain has not been revealed, but BMW has announced that it is developing innovative cylindrical battery technology that will greatly boost the driving range and charging speeds of its Neue Klasse EVs.
