VinFast will now pay its customers if its EV malfunctions

VinFast, a Vietnamese EV manufacturer, has announced a new after-sales policy that would provide qualifying consumers with a service voucher or cash if their EVs break down. The insurance is distinct from the warranty programme and is only applicable in the United States, Canada, and Vietnam.

The Southeast Asian firm says that if both Type 1 and Type 2 concerns arise at the same time, its support programme will cover both. If a Type 3 issue arises, qualified clients will be entitled to Type 3 service as well.

In other words, if a VF 8 – the only model currently sold by VinFast in the US – has an unresponsive infotainment screen, loses power, and then takes more than three days for service technicians to figure out what’s wrong, the owner is entitled to at least $400 in cash or a voucher.

According to VinFast, the after-sales policy does not apply to hardware upgrades or scheduled software updates, accidents, customer-caused vehicle damage, the vehicle not being used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, or issues that cannot be replicated by VinFast.

The VinFast VF 8 starts at $46,000 for the Eco version and features a 349-horsepower dual-motor configuration and an 87.7-kilowatt-hour battery with a range of 264 miles (425 km). A well outfitted City Edition Plus with 402 hp, on the other hand, costs more than $55,000 and has a range of only 191 miles (307 km).
