The Hyundai Initium Hydrogen EV, which will debut in H1 2025, has a 650 km range

The business recently unveiled its Initium Concept, which will lead to a hydrogen fuel cell production model in the first half of 2025. Initium Concept will be physically displayed by the firm in November 2024 at Auto Guangzhou and LA Auto Show.

The Initium Concept, the first car to use Hyundai’s new “Art Of Steel” design language, made its world debut at the company’s Clearly Committed event at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang. “Initium” means “beginning” or “first” in Latin. A production FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) based on this concept car will be unveiled in the first half of 2025. The Initium Concept is the first implementation of Hyundai’s 27-year study into hydrogen fuel powertrains.

Hyundai unveiled the Initium Concept, a new “Art Of Steel” design language that symbolizes the company’s upcoming hydrogen product line. The “+” symbol found in Initium’s lighting signature serves as the primary focal point of this design language. This “+” symbol will be an FCEV-specific design cue in Hyundai’s global portfolio. The company is aiming for an SUV-inspired design that combines outdoor experience with city living.

Among other things, the sheet metal has bold and inspirational lines and creases, a fat-like fascia, a flat-like bonnet, and rough cladding. Although the rugged-looking roof rack with lighting features adds a distinctive appearance, it might not be permitted in many PV-related countries. Although the Initium Concept’s 21-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels give it a lot of muscle, the rear quarter glass makes me think of the Pontiac Aztec, which may not be a good thing.

The rear is equipped with a quad-dot LED brake light, a sleek tailgate, and a “+” emblem in the tail lights. Since it represents the letter “H” in Morse code, this quad-dot configuration is typical of more recent Hyundai vehicles. The Initium concept’s hydrogen-powered drivetrain, which can cover 650 kilometers on a single fill-up, is its primary selling point. A 150 kW (201 bhp) electric motor will be powered by the electricity produced by the fuel cell stack, which will also be used to charge the enormous battery. There are nine airbags, improved structural strength, and the V2L (Vehicle to Load) function.
