The Kia EV6 is the only totally electric car that Kia currently offers in India. The EV9, scheduled to launch on October 3 of this year, will be the second electric vehicle (EV) in its range. Similar to the EV6, the EV9 will be offered to Indian consumers through the completely built unit (CBU) route as a fully imported model. The Korean automaker declared earlier in April of this year that it would launch a battery-powered Carens variant. Although the automaker did not provide a precise release date, the Carens EV is anticipated to arrive in India by the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2026.

Expected Similarities & Differences with the Kia Carens EV

For the first time, a test mule of the totally electric Carens has been captured on camera. The Carens EV will have the same foundation as the current Carens models that are powered by gasoline and diesel, in contrast to the EV6 and EV9, which are built on an electric skateboard architecture. Even parts from its fossil-fueled twin, such as the body shell, panels, and interior pieces, will be retained.

There will be a few differences between the ICE and battery-powered carpenters, though. First, the Carens EV’s front and rear bumpers will be modified, and its alloy wheels will have a similar appearance to Kia’s EV lineup. Upon closer inspection, we find that the exhaust pipe assembly is completely missing from the test mule and that its rear suspension system is entirely altered.

Kia Carens EV: Anticipated engine

Although Kia has not disclosed all of the details of this electric vehicle, we think it may use a powertrain similar to that of the future Hyundai Creta EV, which has already been observed undergoing testing on Indian roads. It is anticipated that the all-electric Creta would go on sale in the upcoming months, specifically in the first quarter of 2025.

It is anticipated to have a 45kWh battery, which should be sufficient for a 300–350 km range, according to earlier sources. The Carens EV will be propelled by a single electric motor installed on the front axle, just as the Creta EV. It is anticipated that more information about the Carens EV will become available when its Indian launch draws closer.
