India will see a surge in electric vehicles, including the Mahindra BE.05, Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti Suzuki eVX

The second half of the current fiscal year is expected to see a surge in the sales of electric vehicles in India, as leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kia India, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, and BYD India are preparing to launch new models.

Up to this point in FY25, there hasn’t been much activity in the mass electric passenger car market. There are just two noteworthy launches to date. The Windsor EV was introduced to the market last week by JSW MG Motor India, while the Curvv.ev was introduced by Tata Motors, the nation’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, in August.

In the Indian automobile market, the rate of adoption of EVs is currently quite low, at about 2%. Nonetheless, by 2030, the government wants to see 30% of passenger cars be electric. Analysts predict that when more electric vehicles are released, especially from mass market OEMs, the demand for them will increase.

Upcoming Electric Vehicles Lineup

The eVX, Maruti’s first electric vehicle, will be on sale in Q4 of FY25. According to the business, the eVX will be a high-end vehicle built on a brand-new EV platform. It will run for 500–550 kilometers on a single full charge thanks to a 60kWh battery pack using safe battery technology. The Creta EV, which will also be released in Q4 FY25, is now being manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu, according to Gopalakrishnan CS, Chief Manufacturing Officer, who spoke with India Today recently.

The luxury Ioniq 5 electric SUV is now available from the automaker. Mahindra, the top SUV maker in the nation, is extremely optimistic about its electric vehicle (EV) prospects. By 2027, it anticipates that electric vehicles would account for up to 30% of its SUV portfolio, contributing about 200,000 units annually to volume.

Mahindra’s first SUV under its electric-only BE brand, the BE.05, will be on sale in Q4 of FY25. Three models—the Kia EV9, Volkswagen ID.4, and BYD eMAX 7—will be introduced early in Q3 FY25, while the Maruti Suzuki eVX, Hyundai Creta EV, and Mahindra BE.05 will go on sale in Q4 FY25.

Volkswagen’s first electric vehicle in India will be the ID.4. Following the EV6, the EV9 will be Kia’s second high-end electric SUV in this market. The Seal premium sedan, the Atto 3 SUV, and the e6 MPV are among BYD’s all-electric vehicles. The e6 will be replaced by the future eMAX 7.
