Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, authorized ₹1,17,220 crore to be invested in four large high-tech EV projects located in Marathwada, Vidarbha, Pune, and Panvel. These projects, which were approved at the Industries Department’s Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting on Thursday, September 5, are anticipated to create about 29,000 employment and establish Maharashtra as a major centre for the production of semiconductors and electric vehicles (EVs).
The projects’ importance was emphasized by Chief Minister Shinde, who said, “The authorized investments would not only contribute to the creation of direct and indirect employment but also a major boost to semiconductor and electric vehicle manufacture in the state. Maharashtra will take the lead in the manufacturing of electric vehicles very soon.”
What are some major EV projects?
- Adani Group and Tower Semiconductor at Panvel, Raigad: This project, which will focus on semiconductor production, will cost ₹83,947 crore in total and be divided into two parts (₹58,763 crore in Phase 1 and ₹25,184 crore in Phase 2). It is anticipated to establish Maharashtra as a leader in the global semiconductor industry and generate 15,000 new employment.
- In Chakan, Pune, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India: In order to produce electric and hybrid vehicles, the business would invest ₹12,000 crore, creating around 1,000 employment.
- At Toyota Kirloskar Motor in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), 12,000 employment would be created by a ₹21,273 crore investment in the production of hybrid and electric vehicles.
- Raymond Luxury Cottons at Nandgaon Peth, Amravati: This project, funded by the Textile Industry Policy, will create 550 jobs through the manufacturing of cotton, jute weaving, spinning, and yarn dyeing, with an investment of ₹188 crore.
The important meeting also included Uday Samant, the minister of industries, and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. Principal Secretary of the Industries Department Harshdeep Kamble and Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, among other officials, emphasized how these projects will bolster Maharashtra’s standing as an industrial powerhouse.
The clearance of projects worth ₹80,000 crore in July was followed by these developments, bringing the total sanctioned investment in the last two months to ₹2 lakh crore. In addition to creating 35,000 employment, these investments will support technical innovation, R&D, and micro, small, and medium-sized businesses throughout the state.
