BYD, the world’s top producer of electric vehicles (EVs), has introduced the BYD Shark, its first pickup truck. This new car, which deviates from its typical all-electric lineup, is a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The Shark positions itself as a rival to vehicles such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, combining a turbo-petrol engine with a large battery and two electric motors.

Design of the BYD Shark Hybrid Pickup Truck

Though smaller in size, the BYD Shark‘s design is similar to that of the Ford F150. It has chunky skid plates, thick cladding, robust lines, bold BYD badging, and a durable roll bar. Along with enormous LED DRLs that swallow vertically stacked projector LED headlights and a connected DRL light bar, the car also has 18-inch alloy wheels.

Features of the BYD Shark Hybrid Pickup Truck

The BYD Shark has remarkable stats even with its independent suspension arrangement, which is often less advantageous for off-roading and towing. With a rated towing capacity of 2,500 kg, the load bed is rated for 835 kg. The pickup truck also has independent suspension in the front and rear to improve ride quality and disc brakes on all four wheels.

A 12.0-inch head-up display, a 10.25-inch TFT digital cluster, and a spinning 12.3-inch touchscreen panel are all installed within the BYD Shark. A robust 50W wireless phone charger, a 180-degree underbody view, ADAS, NFC, and a 360-degree view camera are among the other noteworthy features. The interior design is an all-black color scheme with contrasting red accents for visual interest.
