A novel three-wheeled electric vehicle called the Surge from Hero MotoCorp can be transformed into an electric two-wheeled scooter in a matter of minutes. The Surge S32, billed as the “first-class convertible vehicle” in the world, was just unveiled at Hero World 2024.
An official statement claims that the device, which was designed and manufactured in India, is the subject of forty patents and features seamless technology that allows it to convert from a two-wheeler to a three-wheeler in a matter of seconds. It is purported to have been designed with independent contractors in mind, offering the user the convenience of an electric rickshaw and an electric scooter in one vehicle.
Chairman of RPG Enterprises Harsh Goenka shared a video of the Surge S32 on the social networking platform X, writing, “#Hero has unveiled a revolutionary three-wheeler that transforms into a two-wheeler, showcasing the innovative spirit and ingenuity of Indian engineering.” Seeing such ground-breaking developments is incredible. #MakeInIndia #Innovation”
Hero S32 Surge: Overview
Designed for independent contractors, the electric car is a two-in-one convertible. At first glance, the Surge S32 resembles a regular 3W electric rickshaw. Its front passenger compartment is equipped with wipers, headlights, turn signals, and a windscreen, among other standard features. For weather protection, soft doors with zippers may be included.
The front windshield section lifts vertically to reveal the electric scooter within with a single button press. The 3W vehicle’s cabin shifts and a spring-loaded double-stand mechanism is put into action. The electric scooter shines with its LED headlights, turn signals, speedometer, and switchgear once it’s out of the car.
The Surge S32’s battery and electricity have been cleverly split between the 3W car and the 2W scooter. The Surge S32 (3W) boasts an 11kWh battery and an engine rated at 10 kW (13.4 horsepower). In contrast, the scooter (2W) has a 3.5 kWh battery and an engine that produces 3 kW (4 horsepower). 50 km/h is the maximum speed for the 3W car and 60 km/h for the scooter.
