According to Industries Minister TRB Rajaa, Tamil Nadu is spearheading the green energy transition revolution and is currently creating a green hydrogen centre. Speaking at the India EV Conclave, which had as its theme “Electrifying Tomorrow: Navigating the EV Transition,” he stated that the state’s installed energy capacity was 50% green, with the government aiming to raise that percentage to 75%.

“The revolution in green energy transition is being led by Tamil Nadu.” ‘UN Promotion Award 2023 for Excellence in Scaling Up Energy Transition Investments’ was given to the government in recognition of its dedication and efforts during the recent World Investment Forum in the United Arab Emirates, he said.

“The creation of a green hydrogen hub is now underway. Everyone would gain from the shift away from reliance on fossil fuels and towards green and renewable energy sources if we also have a strong infrastructure for charging electric vehicles,” the minister stated.

According to him, major manufacturers of electric vehicles in Tamil Nadu include Ola, TVS Motor and Ather in Krishnagiri, Ampere Vehicles in Ranipet, BYD India in Kancheepuram, Stellantis in Thiruvallur, and E-Royce Motors in Coimbatore.

“Under the direction of Chief Minister MK Stalin, our state is focused on inclusive, sustainable growth and is guided by policy. One of the few states with an Electric Vehicle policy that is fit for the future is Tamil Nadu, according to Rajaa.

Thanks to the ‘battery-as-a-service’ concept, the policy has opened the door for radical changes in how people commute, he said. Rajaa continued by saying that the upcoming Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet, which is scheduled for January of next year, would provide the electric car industry with a great deal of visibility.
