Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy gets amended and its Incentives increased to promote EV growth

The Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021, will be amended, as announched by the state of Odisha on Wednesday. The government has increased the subsidy for the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs) with two, three, and four wheels through this amendment. In order to reduce vehicular pollution, the state had framed the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy in 2021 with the goal of adoption of 20% electric vehicles by the end of 2025.

“However, it is found that about 4.48 per cent of electric vehicles have been registered by the end of 2022 which is not satisfactory in comparison to the policy objective,” said the official statement.

In order to increase the sales of EVs in Odisha, the state modified clause 4.1.1 of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy.

For three different categories of vehicles, it has provided various types of subsidies. The amendment states that the state will provide a maximum subsidy of Rs 20,000 for each two-wheeler. It can offer a 5000 rupee per kilowatt-hour subsidy.

The state government previously offered a flat Rs 5000 incentive for each two-wheeler under the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy. The same applies to four-wheelers, which are eligible for a subsidy of Rs 10,000 per kilowatt-hour up to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh per vehicle.

Before, the incentive was a flat Rs. 50000. The government will provide a subsidy of Rs 30,000 (flat) for three-wheelers.
Previously, this category of vehicles received no such subsidies under Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy. The Odisha government decided to increase the subsidy on the purchase of electric vehicles in the state on Monday during the state cabinet meeting, which was presided over by chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
