The Citroen C3 EV, a first-generation electric vehicle from French automaker Citroen, was unveiled in India at the start of this year. The E-C3 EV will be offered in four variants: Live, Feel, Feel Vibe Pack, and Feel dual-tone Vibe Pack, with a starting price of 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors is the most well-known company in the affordable EV market, which is still in its infancy. Tata Motors appears to have captured both the PV and CV segments with the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and Xpres-T. To get a piece of this pie, Citroen C3 EV needs to provide a lot of value.

The Citroen Citroen C3 EV has been introduced, with the base Live trim starting at Rs. 11.5 lakh (ex-sh).

The price of the Feel trims with the Vibe Pack and the dual-tone colour is Rs. 12.43 lakh. The Citroen C3 EV costs Rs. 5.52 lakh more with base variants and Rs. 5.23 lakh more with top-spec variants when compared to its ICE counterpart, the C3 hatchback.

Its main competition is the Tata Tiago EV, which starts at Rs. 8.69 lakh (ex-sh) for variants with 19.2 kWh battery packs, Rs. 10.19 lakh (ex-sh) for variants with 24 kWh battery packs and 3.3 kW AC charger, and Rs. 11.49 lakh (ex-sh) for variants with 24 kWh battery packs and 7.2 kW AC charger.

There are four trim levels available for the Tiago EV, compared to only two for the Citroen C3 EV. There are two different powertrain and charger options. Tiago EV produces 7 different variants in total. While the eC3 offers two trim levels, one powertrain, and cosmetic options like dual tone and Vibe Pack. Right away, it becomes clear that Tiago EV offers more options for consumers to choose from.

It is safe to say that Tata set its prices appropriately. Because design is objective, it depends on the consumer. Citroen appears to be providing more in terms of specs, though. Just to name a few differences, eC3 is 212mm longer, 56mm wider, and 50mm taller. Its wheelbase is 140mm longer, its ground clearance is 4mm higher, and its boot is 75L bigger than the Tiago EV’s. As opposed to Tiago EV’s 175-section wheels with 14″ tyres, it has wider 195-section tyres wrapped around 15″ wheels.

In terms of powertrain, Citroen C3 EV outperforms Tiago EV’s larger 24 kWh battery offering with 5.2 kWh more battery capacity and 29 Nm more torque. Tiago EV responds by producing 18 bhp more and reaching 60 km/h in 1.1 seconds less time.

With just 5 km separating the eC3’s range from the 315 km of the Tiago EV, range is slightly in the eC3’s favour. As opposed to the Tiago EV’s smaller 7″ touchscreen, the Citroen C3 EV has a larger 10.25″ touchscreen and comes equipped with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is a fair amount of rivalry between the two. How the market reacts to this pair remains to be seen.
