The Tata Motors recent EV Fire incident which recently happened in the city of Pune is a lesson for all those who own or are thinking of owning an EV in India. Due to the rising cost of fuel, electric cars are quickly gaining popularity. However, it is important to consider the risks that these battery-operated vehicles pose. The second instance of a Tata Motors EV catching fire occurred last Sunday in Pune, when a Tata Nexon EV caught fire in broad daylight. The latest EV fire incident involving the company’s Nexon EV, according to a statement from the company, was caused by the replacement of the original headlamp at an unauthorised workshop.
“We understand that this vehicle recently underwent repairs, wherein the left headlamps were replaced at an unauthorized workshop,” it said.
According to Tata Motors’ official statement, the fitting and repair of the car, which was done at an unlicensed workshop, had flaws. Due to this, the headlamp unit’s electrical system malfunctioned, which then made way for the thermal incident. The business went on to say that only the area where repairs are being made is affected.
In an effort to prevent similar incidents in the future, Tata Motors has also urged owners of electric vehicles to service and repair their EVs only at authorised workshops and with on-spec components, accessories, and spare parts.
Tata Motors also notes how the automotive industry is constantly advancing with newer technologies and contemporary electronic components, particularly with regard to electric cars, which demand seasoned mechanics and skilled craftsmanship, making it even more crucial to only have these vehicles serviced at authorised workshops.
