Tata Motors will supply 1,000 XPres-T EVs to OHM E Logistics

For electric cab transportation services, Hyderabad-based OHM E Logistics has placed a supply order with Tata Motors for 1,000 XPres-T EVs. The all-electric sedan will be delivered in stages to OHM E Logistics. The most recent large order for the Xpres-T sedan comes one month after Tata Motors received the largest single order for electric passenger vehicles in India from Uber India for 25,000 XPres-Ts on February 20. With 10 days left until FY2023, the total number of orders for the e-sedan in the current fiscal year now stands at 49,000 units.

Although there is a long waiting list for both the Mach E and the F-150 Lightning EV pickup, Ford CEO Jim Farley stated during an earnings call earlier this year that Ford encountered many production issues, making the ramp up of EVs much more expensive than it had anticipated.

Ramesh Dorairajan, Senior General Manager – Network Management & EV Sales, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said, “We are delighted to support OHM E Logistics, a forward-thinking logistics company that is leveraging technology and sustainability into the ride hailing business. Through our Xpres-T EV sedans, we have created a new benchmark in the sustainable fleet market segment, currently commanding a market share of over 90%. The XPres-T EV offers an optimal battery size and  captive fast charging solution, which ensures outstandingly low cost of ownership in addition to safety and passenger comfort, making it a comprehensive and attractive proposition for fleet owners and operators.”

Tata Motors had launched the Xpres brand exclusively for fleet customers with the Xpres-T EV being the first vehicle under this brand, in July 2021.

The move clearly paid off handsomely, as the company received nearly 50,000 orders from April 2022 to the end of March 2023. The new XPres-T electric sedan comes with two range options – 315km and 277km (ARAI-certified range under test conditions) (ARAI-certified range under test conditions). The e-sedan, according to Tata Motors, has a high energy density battery with a capacity of 26 kWh and 25.5 kWh, and can be charged normally or quickly from any 15 A plug point to 80% capacity in 59 minutes and 110 minutes, respectively. All variants of the XPres T come standard with an automatic transmission, dual airbags, and ABS with EBD.

For Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle division, which continues to experience strong demand for its seven-model lineup, it has been a busy year. The bulk orders for the fleet-only XPres-T will keep the company’s manufacturing operations running smoothly through 2023 and beyond, in addition to the continued demand for the Nexon EV, India’s best-selling ePV, the Tigor EV, and most recently the Tiago EV.

While the orders from OHM E Logistics and Uber arrived in the first few months of 2023, one from shared mobility operator Everest Fleet arrived on December 14 for 5,000 units. Everest Fleet hopes to boost its green credentials by transitioning from CNG-powered vehicles to electric vehicles. On October 19, Tata signed a supply agreement with Evera, the Delhi-NCR region’s EV-only ride hailing platform, for the delivery of 2,000 XPres-Ts. On World Environment Day (June 6) 2022, Tata Motors signed an agreement with urban electric mobility solutions provider BluSmart Electric Mobility for supply of 10,000 XPres-T EVs.
