According to a top official of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), as many as 30 pure electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers spanning two-, three-, and four-wheeler sectors will present their product portfolios at the 16th edition of the Auto Expo — The Motor Show.
According to SIAM’s Director General Rajesh Menon, the upcoming edition of the expo will allow the general public to better grasp the future of mobility as well as the new technology being created for the industry.
“The 2023 Motor Show will focus on green mobility, especially electrified technologies, and alternate fuel-based mobility,” he said. “This year, we have a very large number of pure EV players. Overall, 30 pure EV companies are participating.”
After a three-year hiatus, the exhibition will return on January 13-18, 2023. According to Menon, among the 24 pure EV players showing their goods in the two- and three-wheeler divisions are Okinawa Autotech, Greaves Cotton, Hero Eco Tech, Tork Motors, WardWizard Innovations, and Matter Motorworks.
Other two- and three-wheeler category participants include Devot Motors, Sledgehammer Works, Motovolt Mobility, Fujiyama Power Infra, Ultraviolette Automotive, LML Emotions, Quantum Energy, and Blive. According to Vahan portal data, the current fiscal’s electric two-wheeler sales trend remained consistent in November, reaching 76,162 units compared to 76,952 units in October.
The E2W business has sold around 4.3 lakh units in the current fiscal year as of November. The expo will also include three pure EV passenger car (PV) original equipment manufacturers (OEMs): BYD India, Vayve Mobility, and Pravaig Dynamics, as well as three pure EV commercial vehicle (CV) players: Omega Seiki, Hexall Motors, and Jupiter Electric.
PV manufacturers, representing for around 83 percent of the industry, and CV players, accounting for approximately 74 percent of the market, are likely to participate in the event, according to Menon. Menon also stated that the exhibition will feature a new ‘Flex’ (flexible fuel) car lineup. FFVs are modified versions of existing vehicles that can run on both pure gasoline and ethanol-blended gasoline.
“We have an entire value chain of ethanol, including the sugar industry and OMCs showing their product line-ups at the expo,” said Menon.
The expo will also feature makers of lithium-ion batteries, chargers, and other EV components, as well as tyre firms. Some manufacturers backed out of the event last month, citing a variety of reasons, including a lack of new models.
Auto heavyweights such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Tata Motors, Kia, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, MG Motor, VE Commercial Vehicles, and Ashok Leyland, as well as a huge number of start-ups, will participate in the event, which will be held at the India Gate Mart in Greater Noida.
According to SIAM data, total domestic automotive sales in FY22 were 17,513,596 units, a decrease from 18,620,233 units sold in FY21. Overall domestic auto sales in FY23 were 1,40,13,283 units through November, up from 1,11,43,835 units sold in the previous fiscal year.
