Citroen C3 could very well debut in India with Stellantis’s C3 Hatchback Smart car platform

Carlos Tavares, Stellantis’ global CEO, has announced the debut of an all-electric Citroen C3. According to him, it will be released sometime early next year. Citroen is expected to enter the electric car market in India with an EV version of their C3 hatchback with an SUV-like design. It is most likely to be referred to as the E-C3. The new electric car is expected to make its debut in early 2023.

Citroen releases its first electric vehicle for India, the E-C3, just a few months after launching the petrol-powered C3. The new electric vehicle is slated to hit the market early next year.

The Citroen EC3 is expected to retain the same feature set as the conventional or internal combustion engine-powered C3, although the electric hatchback is expected to receive minor modifications to differentiate it from the ordinary C3. Citroen may experiment with the colour and style of the external trim and wheel covers to visually distinguish the EV variant and make it stand out.

This should imply that the interior’s built-to-price quality, as well as its adjustable exterior and interior trims, will remain available. The spy photographs show that, with the exception of the charging outlet door on the front right fender, the Citroen E-C3 will look very similar to the C3. The electric version of the vehicle is likely to cost between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 13 lakh.

Their biggest challenge is making EVs accessible to the middle class. During a media event in Chennai, Tavares also emphasised that scalability can lead to affordability, and only then can it have a meaningful impact on the environment. In order to keep prices down, the e-C3 will use a reasonably large battery. The vehicle will have both a fast charger and an onboard AC charger. Citroen, on the other hand, is eager to localise this in order to make it more affordable.
