Ather Energy, a leading player in the electric vehicle sector is in talks with several state governments for building new factories to manufacture more electric vehicles to meet the demand for two-wheelers. Ather Energy’s Chief Business Officer (CBO), Ravneet Phokela, said to IANS that the company is increasing its manufacturing production and intends to add 1 million units of capacity to its existing 400,000 annual capacity.
Ather Energy’s roadmap to revolutionize the Indian EV industry
“To drive faster adoption of EVs, we continue investing in public fast-charging networks. With around 1,000 chargers installed across the country, we already have the largest fast-charging network for two-wheelers in the country, and this number continues to grow,” Phokela said to IANS.
Ather Energy is an Indian electric vehicle company which is headquartered in Bangalore. It was founded by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain in 2013. It manufactures two electric scooters – the Ather 450X and the Ather 450 Plus. It has also established electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country called Ather Grid.
The central government has rolled out various initiatives for increasing production, demand and sales of electric vehicles and for setting up and improvising EV infrastructure in the country. The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) policy had an initial budget of Rs 10,000 crores till March 2022, but only about Rs 492 crores has been allocated till now. The FAME II policy has now been updated which can prove to be one of the most crucial steps in these changing times for the easy adoption of EVs, especially in two-wheelers.
“These initiatives have made switching to EVs more lucrative and financially more viable for the consumers and manufacture both”, Phokela added. Presently, the EV startup has 90 experience centres across 73 cities.
“We will be opening around 150 experience centers in 100 cities by March 2023 in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, as we have been witnessing strong demands for our scooters in these markets”, Phokela informed.
“To drive faster adoption of EVs, we continue to invest in public fast charging networks. With around 1,000 chargers installed across the country, we already have the largest fast-charging network for two-wheelers in the country, and this number continues to rise.” Phokela added.
Ather Energy reported sales of 9,187 units in December 2022, a 389% increase (on-year growth).
