2025 MG ZS EV Unveiled: A Dramatic New Look Compared to Next-Gen Astor

One of the first electric cars in India, the MG ZS EV draws a wider variety of potential customers to electric mobility with its longer, more practical range. Since its launch, it has seen a substantial makeover and is MG’s first electric endeavor. The 2025 ZS EV, which boasts a far more radical design than its predecessor, has been introduced by MG. ZS EV has a new generation that it is naming ES5, according to the firm.

It might debut in India and take the place of the present model. The only difference between the ZS EV, which is presently for sale, and the Astor is that the former has a closed-off grill while the latter does not. By sharing the majority of their sheet metal and components, this will lower costs.

That isn’t the case, though, with the recently released ZS (Astor) and the recently released ES5 (ZS EV). This is due to the fact that they appear to be two distinct cars. It should be mentioned that Astor is referred to as ZS around the world, and ZS EV is the name of its electric variant.

The recently released ES5, which will take the place of MG’s ZS EV, is probably going to be marketed as a new car rather than as the ZS EV. This explains the divergence in naming convention, as well as the radically dissimilar sheet metal and design language. There will be an official announcement with further details soon.

Additionally, dimensions differ. In comparison, ES5 (ZS EV) is 4.48 meters long and 1.85 meters broad, and New ZS (Astor) is 4.43 meters long and 1.81 meters wide. We can tell just by looking at the photos that the ES5 has a much sportier, yet unique, appearance.

MG ZS EV (ES5): Specifications and features

The ES5 may eventually go by the ZS EV moniker, but it’s unclear if it will continue to use the ES5 brand. The style obviously deviates from the newly released ZS. The car has a split headlight configuration, with the primary beams below and a triple LED DRL signature above. The ES5’s closed grille indicates that it requires less ventilation. In contrast to the newly released ZS, which also has a distinct window line, the ES5 sports new ORVMs, alloy wheels, and unique sheet metal. Compared to the ZS’s more subdued look, the ES5 has a sportier new spoiler on the back. The linked LED taillights on the back of the ES5 add to its aggressive look.

The ES5’s powertrain specifications are yet unknown. Rumor has it that it will have the same foundation as the MG 4 electric hatchback, which has an LFP battery pack that can hold up to 77 kWh and potentially provide 520 km of range on a single charge. The new ES5 (2025 MG ZS EV) may be powered by a motor producing 168, 201, or even 241 horsepower and torque.
