In the late 1960s, the British market equivalent of the American Mustang was the Ford Capri. The Cortina-based sports car is one of the most recognizable cars on the road thanks to its eye-catching design. The Capri nameplate has returned to the global market after a long absence, however, it is now restricted to an electric crossover with five doors.

Like the Ford Explorer electric, the car is aimed at the European market. It will be made at the company’s Cologne, Germany, facility. The Capri, like the Mustang Mach-E, will compete against the Tesla Model Y and Polestar 4. Based on current currency rates, the base Capri model should cost approximately USD 61,731, while the premium trim will cost an additional USD 66,995 (nearly Rs 55.95 lakh) in total.

Ford’s New All-Electric Capri: Design

The distinctive elements of the original Ford Capri’s design were its sloping rear quarter window and similarly arcing C-pillar. The new Capri EV follows the profile of the more coupe-like Volkswagen ID.5 sibling more closely in order to replicate these, tracing it roughly over the extra pair of doors and hard points of the Volkswagen MEB platform. With its prominent freeboard and bluff hindquarters, the new Capri looks quite tall. There are a lot of small similarities, like the same-shaped tail and the raised rear quarter window’s bottom edge. The blacked-out A-pillars and the dark lower-trim both have similarities.

Range, Charging Time, and Battery Pack of the New All-Electric Ford Capri

There will be two Capri models available when it goes on sale in the UK, and they will both be called “Extended Range.” The base model, a 278bhp single-motor rear-wheel drive car, is said to have a 627 km range based on the European WLTP test. With its 77kWh battery pack, the car can reach a 10% to 80% charge in 28 minutes.

The Premium model adds 330 horsepower and all-wheel drive with an additional electric motor. With a 10% to 80% charging time of 26 minutes, the battery’s useful capacity climbs to 79kWh and its maximum charging power increases to 185 kW (up from 135 kW). The extra motor and bigger battery pack allow the Premium variant to have a maximum range of 592 kilometers. The Premium will reach 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds, compared to 6.4 seconds for the less powerful variant.

Interior of the New All-Electric Ford Capri

Unsurprisingly, the electric Explorer’s interior has a lot of effect on the Capri’s design. The updated Capri has a 14.6-inch movable infotainment screen with adjustable angles. A fun nod to the past, the bottom spoke of the steering wheel has metal spokes that are drilled, evoking the look of classic sports steering wheels.

Wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated seats with 12 massage settings, heated and foldable door mirrors that display a picture of a Capri on the ground, and dual-zone climate control are among the standard amenities of the Capri. The premium model’s extra amenities, meanwhile, include ambient lighting and a 10-speaker B&O sound system with a subwoofer. Additionally, it has a driver-support package that includes active park assist, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, and aided lane changes.
