Indian researcher develops breakthrough technique that allows EVs to be charged more quickly than smartphones

An electronic appliance typically requires at least 30 minutes to charge fully. However, science and technology have advanced to the point where you can now charge an EV in ten minutes and a dead laptop or mobile phone in just one minute. New technology is indeed here! A researcher of Indian descent has unveiled a new technology that can accomplish the same task in a matter of seconds.

Ankur Gupta Indian researcher develops breakthrough technique that allows EVs to be charged more quickly than smartphones

EV Fast Charging Technique by Indian Researcher

The technique was created by Ankur Gupta, an assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder in the United States, and his research group. The technology was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The researchers have shown the flow of ions—small, charged particles within a complex network of microscopic pores. According to Gupta, this discovery could hasten the creation of supercapacitors and other more effective storage technologies.

“Given the critical role of energy in the planet’s future, I felt inspired to apply my chemical engineering knowledge to advancing energy storage devices,” stated Gupta. Gupta, cited by the journal, stated, “It felt like the topic was somewhat underexplored and, as such, the perfect opportunity.” Supercapacitors are primarily attractive because of their speed. Thus, what steps can we take to accelerate their energy release and charging? through the ions’ more effective migration. That is the work’s leap. We’ve located the gap,” he continued.

The discovery, according to the researchers, also makes it possible to simulate and predict ion flow in a complicated network of thousands of interconnected pores in a matter of minutes.
