EV taxi, pink taxi: New initiatives by Bangalore Airport

In honour of World Environment Day, Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) and Refex eVeelz have launched a new fleet of electric vehicle (EV) Airport Taxis, marking a major advancement in the airport’s sustainability efforts.

There are 175 small SUVs in the new EV fleet, which is a substantial departure from the conventional fuel-powered taxi fleet. By having more than half of its fleet run on electric power, BLR Airport hopes to significantly cut carbon emissions and promote a cleaner environment that will benefit the airport and the surrounding areas.

BLR Airport’s dedication to environmental stewardship goes beyond more eco-friendly modes of transportation. In honour of World Environment Day, the Airport planted 100 trees on its property, demonstrating its commitment to preserving and reviving the environment and establishing green areas that provide comfort and shade to everyone who passes by.

Managing Director and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Ltd. Hari Marar stated: “At BIAL, our dedication to sustainability motivates us to carry out environmental-beneficial projects continuously. Our airport’s green areas have been improved, and our carbon footprint has been reduced with the launch of our electric taxi fleet and the tree-planting campaign. These initiatives, which prioritize the provision of sustainable ecological solutions, positively impact the ecology, enhance the passenger experience, and help the local community.

“Refex’s Green Mobility vertical is on a mission to provide dependable, safe, and cleaner options for commuting through Refex eVeelz,” stated Anil Jain, Managing Director of Refex Group. Our driver partners, our 100% company-owned and leased electric fleet, and our operational procedures make a safe and environmentally responsible commute possible.

Bangalore’s new EV initiative

Travelers can quickly reserve the new electric taxis at the airport taxi stands in both terminals or via the easy-to-use BLR Pulse mobile application. In addition, the revamped electric taxis are available in two unique colors: pink, which is reserved exclusively for female passengers and driven by female drivers, hence enhancing safety and inclusivity for all travelers, and teal, which symbolizes the airport’s unwavering commitment to sustainability. To further improve safety precautions, every passenger receives a free “Pink Card” with the emergency contact information for the duty manager, the local police, and ambulance services.

After implementing semi-robotic aircraft towing vehicles and electric vehicles on both the airside and the landside with success, BIAL is still committed to its long-term goal of converting all vehicles at BLR Airport to sustainable solutions. In addition to putting passengers’ well-being first, these programs support more general environmental objectives and promote a greener future for everybody.
