Yamaha provides $20 million to River, an electric two-wheeler company

Due in part to unique local regulatory provisions, the market for electric scooters in India is expected to soar in the near future as a result of the planned replacement of a sizable portion of the country’s current fleet of small vehicles with more environmentally friendly ones. It goes without saying that the market is expanding and that many see it as a chance for success, but it’s also important to note that the company’s worldwide emissions targets may be met if it produces more electric vehicles.

Due to these conditions, there are a significant number of start-ups associated with electric mobility, and even the most significant Indian manufacturers are attempting to enter into partnerships in this sector or create their own electric cars. Considering this scenario makes it simpler to comprehend the collaboration between River and Yamama Motor Co., the latter being a promising start-up that currently only offers one scooter model (the Indie), which deserves credit for its unique and intriguing concepts.

Yamaha’s big investment in River

In fact, River has started a funding campaign, to which the Japanese manufacturer has contributed more than $20 million, in addition to the roughly $20 million contributed by current investors Al Futtaim Group, Lowercarbon Capital, Toyota Ventures, and Maniv Mobility. With this move, Yamaha hopes to pursue “new business partnerships with the company in the Indian electric vehicle market.”

It is worth noting that the company has set a goal to reduce CO₂ Scope 3 emissions (emissions produced by the company’s value chain, such as the use of products sold) by 90% by 2050 compared to 2010 in Yamaha Motor Group’s Environmental Plan 2050. The Indian manufacturer was founded in 2021. To date, it has raised 68 million dollars. The corporation is taking steps to accomplish this goal, one of which is this investment. The Neo and Booster, two of Yamaha’s electric cars, are already offered in Europe; however, they are not yet offered by Yamaha India.
