The Delhi government’s EV scheme will last till March

According to representatives of the Transport Department, the Delhi government has chosen to prolong its EV policy by an additional three months, till March 31. An official stated that the Delhi Cabinet will review and approve a proposal on this. The battery-operated vehicle purchase incentive policy was scheduled to expire on Sunday.

Delhi EV policy’s evolution

By 2024, it wants to see a quarter of all vehicles on city roads be electric. The Hindu was informed earlier in October by Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot that the policy would be extended for a further six months as his administration redesigned the programme to provide more incentives for consumers to choose battery-operated automobiles.

In the revised programme, he had stated that his government will support retrofitting—the conversion of petrol and diesel cars into electric vehicles. He further stated, “Due to challenges in implementing the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 1.0, we will be prolonging it for the time being.”

Mr Gahlot stated, “There was no readily available framework to fall back on since the policy was first of its kind.” The Minister noted that because it was hard to find property, his department also had trouble deciding where private vehicle charging stations should be located.

The Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme has also aggressively promoted the switch to electric vehicles. By 2030, aggregators are required to convert their whole fleet to electric vehicles.
