Tesla is expected to establish its first EV manufacturing facility in the Indian state of Gujarat early next year, marking the company’s imminent entry into the Indian market.
According to media sources, the ongoing negotiations to create the EV maker’s first manufacturing unit in India are in their last leg and should conclude soon. According to the Ahmedabad Mirror, the announcement on the opening of a Tesla manufacturing facility in the state will most likely be made at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which is set for January 2024.
Gujarat is a strategically important place to establish a business and has been for many years. Already, the state is home to Maruti Suzuki and other automakers’ manufacturing facilities. According to a report from the media outlet, Sanand, Becharaji, and Dholera could be potential locations for the Tesla manufacturing plant.
Minister speaks to Musk’s EV investment in Gujarat
Rushikesh Patel, the spokesperson for the government and minister of health in Gujarat, has voiced confidence about Elon Musk’s likelihood of investing in Gujarat. Gujarat Minister Rushikesh Patel stated that Tesla’s overall objectives and Gujarat’s level of awareness and alignment are complementary during a Cabinet briefing on Thursday, December 28. He further underlined that the government and Tesla have been in active talks to finalise the agreement for the construction of the manufacturing facility in Gujarat.
