All Major EV Platforms: Renault, Hyundai, Mahindra, Volkswagen and Tata

What exactly is an EV Platform?

An engineless or motorless primary vehicle frame is referred to as a platform because it lacks a chassis, body, or powertrain. The foundation of an EV platform is founded on the idea that it will function as a completely autonomous system made up of various EV parts, including the suspension system, wheels, and battery assembly. According to the specifications of the manufacturer, the platform’s length and width will be changed, as well as the quantity of tiny batteries in the assembly.

The foundation upon which these innovative autos stand plays a crucial role in determining the future of sustainable mobility in the ever-evolving world of electric vehicles (EVs). Enter the world of EV platforms, the unsung heroes that provide the upcoming generation of electric vehicles with the structural stability and versatility they require.

This essay will lead you on a quest to learn about the amazing advancements in EV platform technology made by market leaders like Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai, Renault, etc. On these platforms, which promise higher performance, increased efficiency, and ground-breaking design, manufacturers paint their visions of electric mobility. Let’s take a closer look at each platform.

The top EV platforms

Tata Motor

The market for electric vehicles in India is expected to receive a substantial boost from Tata Motors. Tata is adamant about being a leader in this industry because it recognizes the enormous growth potential in this market. The GEN 1 EV platform, which has since been further modified into the GEN 2 platform, was introduced by the corporation in order to accomplish this goal. These EV platforms are derived from ICE platforms, with modest modifications made to make room for electric motors and battery packs.

The Generation-1 platform from Tata Motors is the foundation for vehicles like the Tigor EV, Nexon EV, and Tiago EV. Tata Motors is concentrating its efforts on creating the GEN 3 platform, an innovative architecture created just for electric vehicles, after making a successful foray into the EV market. This ground-breaking platform does away with the requirement for diesel or gasoline engine technology, allowing it to fully utilize the benefits of electric power.

Mahindra

At an important event in London, Mahindra, a major player in the Indian automotive industry, announced its strategic intent to have a substantial impact on the EV market. With this momentous news, Mahindra’s revolutionary INGLO platform for electric vehicles made its premiere. Mahindra will enter the competitive world of electric automobiles with this EV platform, with a 2024 market debut planned.

Mahindra and Volkswagen have formalized their excellent cooperation by signing a deal covering the supply of MEB electric components. This partnership involves Mahindra’s Born Electric SUV line in addition to upcoming cooperative ventures covering charging infrastructure and cell manufacturing initiatives.

Two brands will be available in the Mahindra array of electric SUVs: the all-new electric-only brand “BE” and the ‘XUV,’ which will sport the Twin Peak emblem in a stunning Copper tone. Models from this intriguing line include the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09.

Hyundai

The South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor is significantly enhancing its production capabilities. The company makes significant investments in R&D, constructing new production facilities and creating cutting-edge EV platforms. In addition, Hyundai is expanding its line-up of electric vehicles (EVs) and ramping up manufacturing, displaying its unwavering dedication to staying at the top of the automotive sector.

An important step toward Hyundai’s goal of electrification was the creation of its distinctive platform, known as the “Electric-Global Platform,” or E-GMP. E-GMP is a ground-breaking project from Hyundai Motor and the first platform completely focused on battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). This significant event ushers in a new era in Hyundai’s illustrious past and serves as the cornerstone for the following line of Hyundai BEVs.

Renault & Nissan

The future Renault 5 will be built on Renault’s ground-breaking CMF-B electric vehicle platform, which is a big step forward for the electric car industry. This customizable platform can save costs and streamline manufacturing procedures because it is 70% equivalent to the CMF-B platform used in the Clio and Captur models.

Its amazing cost-effectiveness, which Renault claims is 30% lower than the electric ZOE, is one of its differentiating qualities. In addition to cost advantages, the CMF-B EV platform’s adaptability allows for the creation of numerous electric vehicle models with variable tracks and wheelbases to support different body shapes and styling.

Volkswagen

The modular e-chassis was created as a result of the Volkswagen Group’s dedication to electrification. Since 2019, a variety of electric vehicles have been produced using this MEB platform. The platform’s versatility, which serves as the foundation for a variety of vehicle types, from small city cars to roomy SUVs and vans, is one of its main features.

The MEB+ platform, a rebuilt and upgraded version of the MEB platform intended to further improve the electric vehicle experience, is a new direction for the Volkswagen Group under new leadership. One of the MEB+ platform’s unique features is its outstanding range, which, by WLTP standards, offers up to 700 kilometers (435 miles).

In conclusion, the major revolution in electric vehicles is driven by the creativity of cutting-edge EV platforms. By rethinking electric mobility on adaptable, effective, and ecologically responsible platforms, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai, and Renault are all breaking new ground. As these platforms grow and mature, cleaner, more environmentally friendly, and more accessible transportation will soon be a reality. These platforms’ scalable designs, cutting-edge battery technology, and adaptable topologies make them more than just engineering marvels.
