Tata Motors shares the first peek of the revamped Nexon EV

The first-ever teaser for the electric sub-compact SUV for the Tata Nexon EV has revealed that the initial facelift would debut on September 7. Additionally, it will be the first EV to feature Tata’s new Tata.ev electric brand identity. The improvements and changes will be similar to the newly unveiled Nexon facelift, which is driven by ICE, but with some modifications.

Tata Nexon EV Facelift

According to what we can infer from the trailer, the Nexon EV facelift’s aesthetic revisions will take the same approach, with the slimmer DRLs and split headlights resting below it. On a frameless closed-off grille, the DRLs on this vehicle, however, cover the whole of the bonnet. Lower down, there might also be more EV-specific information, but that won’t be confirmed until everything fully emerges.

There appear to be no differences between the connected tail light configuration and the ICE-powered Nexon, although we do believe there will be some. Although the profile wasn’t hinted at, the EV will likely have somewhat aerodynamic alloy wheels to increase its range.

Charging EVs in Mumbai could get costlier

The interior of the vehicle was not hinted at either, but the dashboard should have a similar design with a few EV-specific details to indicate its nature. This means that a large 10.25-inch infotainment and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display are both expected, together with touch-sensitive AC and steering-mounted controls.

Here, Tata might experiment with the theme and seat padding. For reference, the purple/black colouring scheme is carried throughout the Nexon redesign. Aside from the newer and larger screens, the Nexon EV is anticipated to have an exponential increase in capabilities, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, and up to six airbags.

It’s anticipated that existing features like heated front seats, wireless phone charging, a Harman sound system, a sunroof, and linked car technologies will remain. No information has been provided regarding the Nexon EV facelift’s engine specifications, although it’s feasible that Tata may be able to eke out a little bit more range from the existing battery options of the outgoing model, which include a 30.2kWh battery (Prime) and a 40.5kWh battery pack (Max).

The claimed range of the latter is up to 453 km, compared to 312 km for the former. The larger battery pack receives a more potent 143PS/250Nm electric motor while the Prime receives a 129PS/245Nm electric motor.

Undoubtedly going to be a more high-end product than the model it will replace, the Nexon EV facelift may also cost more than the model it will replace. Prices for the current model range from Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 19.54 lakh (all ex-showroom). It will still compete with the Mahindra XUV400 EV.
