In Delhi, registration of electric vehicles has resumed, according to Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, who also highlighted that the current policy’s subsidy benefits will continue till a new one is introduced. The Delhi Electric car Policy, which was announced last year, is effective for three years after the date of issue, but it produced confusion when new car registration ceased with the existing policy expiring in August, causing uncertainty.
According to clause 3.1 of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy, which was published on August 7, 2020, the policy “shall remain valid for a period of three years from the date of issue.”
The policy’s expiration on August 7 of this year halted the registration of new autos. Gahlot, however, stated in an official message that the draught Cabinet note has been authorised and the procedure for extending the electric car policy has begun.
Gahlot’s View on Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy
Gahlot tweeted on Wednesday, “The registration of electric vehicles at RTOs has resumed. Until the new policy is announced, the existing Delhi EV policy‘s subsidy benefits will remain in effect. We are devoted to serving Delhi’s residents under the direction of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The transport department reported in May that the electric vehicle policy in Delhi has so far met almost 86% of its goals and objectives. In May, the Delhi Electric Vehicle Cell and the transport department held a stakeholder consultation as part of the process of revising the “Delhi EV Policy 2.0.”
