Reliance and Bharat Benz unveils India’s first Hydrogen Fuel cell Intercity Luxury Coach

At the 4th Energy Transitions Working Group conference under India’s G20 Presidency in Taleigao, Goa, Bharat Benz and Reliance Industries unveiled an intercity luxury coach powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology. It is India’s first intercity luxury coach powered by hydrogen fuel cells. It is built on a customised BharatBenz coach chassis and powered by a Reliance Industries-designed and produced fuel cell system that employs cutting-edge components from international partners with significant localization.

At the India Energy Week in Bangalore, Reliance Industries unveiled India’s first Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine technology solution for heavy-duty vehicles. The luxurious carriage can drive 400 km on a single hydrogen fill and traverse large distances between cities using clean fuel. It can also produce 127 kW of gross system power and 105 kW of total power.

Over the next 12 months, the luxury coach will also be validated and tested for safety. BharatBenz and Reliance Industries are forerunners in the field of hydrogen propulsion technologies for the future. They intend to investigate the potential of hydrogen fuel cell propulsion for future travel.

Bharat Benz and Reliance Industries have joined forces to introduce a new concept that delves into the potential of hydrogen fuel cell propulsion for future travel. Their collaborative effort has led to the development of an inter-city luxury coach, which will serve as a platform for an advanced engineering study. The primary aim of this study is to assess the feasibility and viability of using Hydrogen Fuel Cell as a potential alternative for propulsion in the future, according to a statement by Bharat Benz.

The hydrogen fuel cell propulsion technology utilizes a customized coach chassis from BharatBenz, locally developed by Reliance Industries. The creators of this innovative bus state that it is designed to provide an approximate range of 400 km. The primary objective of this study is to assess the practicality of H2 Fuel Cell technology for inter-city travel. The concept of the H2 Fuel Cell inter-city luxury coach embodies the engineering expertise of #BharatBenz and incorporates Reliance Industries’ cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell technology, as highlighted by the firm.
