BYD has teased the Leopard 5, an off-roading electric SUV that will be released next month. According to cnevpost, this time it’s under a new sub-brand named Fang Cheng Bao. The new BYD off-road electric SUV has been teased from several angles. One image displays the car’s front, with its wide body and mirrors that protrude out.
The Leopard 5’s strong headlights appear to be inspired by the Landcruiser, an ICE off-roader. The twin frontal light bars that reach from one end of the vehicle to the other are what distinguishes it. The new video’s side viewpoint hints at a rugged attitude, similar to that of a Land Rover Defender.
This design motif is carried over to the back, where a spare wheel carrier is mounted to the rear tailboard door. The moonroof and side roof rails of the Leopard 5 may also be seen from this perspective. More four-wheel-drive design cues are utilised in the rear, especially the strong tail lamps.
According to local media, the Leopard 5 will have a dual-motor drivetrain and a starting price of 400,000 RMB, or $A82,710. In comparison, the Toyota Landcruiser starts at $89,181 in the United States.
It is scheduled to be released in August. At this point, nothing is known about the new off-roader, including if it would have a 7-seater form. There are very few EV possibilities in the off-roading market. It’s encouraging to see new models being developed by significant EV manufacturers like BYD.
The design cues from the Toyota Landcruiser and the Land Rover Defender resonate with many market purchasers, so an EV option will be highly appreciated.
