Indian delegation travels to Taiwan to court Foxconn for EV production in 2023

According to a June 17 article in the Economic Times, an Indian delegation is now in Taiwan meeting with Foxconn executives to promote India as a desirable location for the production of electric vehicles (EVs). 

According to the article, Indian officials would also advise Foxconn on their efforts to identify and assess prospective sources of minerals including lithium, manganese, nickel, and cobalt, all of which are essential for the production of electric vehicles.

Foxconn is serious to manufacture EVs in India

In line with the government’s desire for environmentally friendly transportation, this move follows recent rumours revealing the company’s plans to enter the Indian EV manufacturing industry this year.

Officials from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh held conversations about EV manufacturing prospects during the visit of top Foxconn executives last year. In addition, the Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir has been home to 5.9 million tonnes of lithium deposits, according to information released in February by the Geological Survey of India. 

In February 2022, Vedanta and the Taiwanese giant established a joint venture for semiconductor production in India.
