The latest versions of Tesla’s Model S and Model X electric vehicles, with their 10 TFLOPS infotainment system, are ready to gain thousands more games to play on the in-vehicle displays. Tesla CEO Elon Musk first promised Steam integration earlier this year, and the business officially added Valve’s game platform to select automobiles on Wednesday.
“Steam is here — bringing thousands of games to new Model S & X vehicles,” said Tesla in a statement via Twitter.
For the time being, games certified to run with Valve’s Steam Deck are also compatible with Tesla Model S and X (model year 2022+) equipped with 16 GB of memory and Premium Connectivity.
Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of them. More games may be added to these electric vehicles in the future, although Tesla has not revealed which ones or when. Tesla vehicles completely support Steam cloud synchronisation for transferring game progress between devices.
In addition to Steam connectivity, the Holiday Update includes the first-ever Apple Music and Zoom apps. All Teslas include a Dog Mode, which allows you to set the climate control to a comfortable temperature for your pet while you enter a store and displays the current temperature to passersby on the centre display. With the Holiday Update, you can now use the Tesla app on your smartphone to check in on your dogs via the onboard cabin camera.
Adding Steam to a car may not seem like a big deal because this is not a standard option. However, by permitting Steam on its electrified vehicles, Tesla raises the bar for infotainment, effectively redefining what customers expect from in-vehicle infotainment in general.
