Bentley plans to launch its first electric vehicle in 2026 as a “luxury urban SUV”

The first fully electric vehicle from Bentley is scheduled to be unveiled in 2026 and will be a “luxury urban SUV.”

We think this sounds like a luxury crossover, even if the company says it will “create an entirely new segment.” Our best assumption is that Bentley will try to utilize the PPE platform from the VW Group, which presently supports the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Porsche Macan EV.

However, it has been confirmed that Bentley’s Crewe headquarters will be the site of the design, development, and production of the as-yet-unnamed EV. Bentley’s “Beyond100” business strategy, which was first introduced in late 2020, included that initial goal. However, “Beyond100+” has since replaced it. I hope the group assigned to come up with names for the new cars is a bit more creative.

Bentley First Electric Vehicle

Although there are currently little details available, Bentley has disclosed that its first electric vehicle would be an SUV that is shorter than the Bentayga and less than 5,000 mm in length. This places it in the same size range as the Audi Q8 e-tron or Mercedes EQE SUV. Actually, the future Porsche Cayenne EV and the new Bentley EV will share a platform. Although Bentley hasn’t released any performance metrics, the company says that charging speed and range will be top considerations.

A significant move for the brand is Bentley’s choice to enter the EV market. It demonstrates how even the most established automakers will eventually need to change with the times. Even if the company’s present clientele might not be clamoring for electric vehicles, electrification is unavoidable. A new generation of purchasers will be drawn to Bentley with its first electrified SUV.

The transition to electric powertrains poses a special difficulty for Bentley. Strong engines and a luxurious driving experience were the foundation of the company’s reputation. It will take a great deal of engineering and design skills to turn that into an electric car. Bentley seemed assured of their ability to deliver.
