Park+: 74% EV Owners plan to drive only an EV throughout their lifetime

Park+ Research Labs, India’s only digital-first, data-driven survey platform, has unveiled significant findings from its comprehensive pan-India survey of electric vehicle (EV) owners. This groundbreaking survey, the largest of its kind in India, gathered insights from 1,330 EV owners who purchased their vehicles after January 1, 2024. The goal was to understand the mindset of these relatively new EV owners and their experiences.

Revolutionizing EV Ownership: Key Insights from Park+ Research Labs

The survey revealed that the top three reasons driving the shift to electric vehicles are cost-effective ownership (29%), perceived environmental benefits (25%), and the adoption of the latest automotive technology (21%). Many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are offering five-year warranties on their battery packs, which has boosted the confidence of potential buyers. Remarkably, 92% of EV owners expressed satisfaction with their purchase, while only 2% reported dissatisfaction. However, concerns remain regarding the accessibility of charging infrastructure (24%), range anxiety (23%), and the time required to charge their vehicles (21%).

Confidence in EV ownership is bolstered by the increasing number of EVs on Indian roads (36%), improved charging stations (25%), and support from family and friends (22%). Yet, there are still areas for improvement. Respondents highlighted the need for more accessible and safe public charging points (30%), faster-charging batteries (29%), and lower prices for EVs (24%).

A significant challenge identified by 71% of respondents is the lack of EV clubs and communities. Many owners believe that their experience could be greatly enhanced by fostering more EV clubs where they can share knowledge and ownership experiences.

Amit Lakhotia, Founder & CEO of Park+, commented on the survey findings, stating, “The Indian 4W EV story is still being written, and it’s crucial to engage with EV owners to understand their experiences and expectations. Our survey shows that these owners are well-informed and realistic about their vehicles’ performance. However, the absence of EV communities is a notable gap that needs to be addressed. At Park+, we currently host over 25,000 EV owners and aim to empower them to connect and build a robust EV community in India.”

The insights from Park+ Research Labs indicate a significant shift in consumer attitudes toward electric vehicles in India. With 74% of EV owners planning to drive electric exclusively for life, the momentum toward sustainable mobility is clear. Addressing the importance of community, enhancing charging infrastructure, and alleviating range anxiety will be vital for the future of the EV ecosystem in India. As the market continues to evolve, fostering connections among EV owners will play a crucial role in shaping a sustainable and supportive environment for electric vehicle enthusiasts.
