Kerala is expected to surpass two lakh EV registrations, as the demand for EVs increases

As the overall number of EV registrations in Kerala approaches two lakh, the industry is experiencing a noticeable growth. As a result of the state’s increasing transition to sustainable modes of transportation, there are already 1,83,686 electric vehicles registered in the state, with 54,703 new registrations this year alone. The figures show a dramatic shift from 2020, when there were only 1,368 registered EVs. By the end of the year, analysts predict that the number of EVs—which include automobiles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers—will have surpassed two lakh.

Demand for EV increasing in Kerala

Automakers intend to increase the number of Electric Vehicle options available in India in response to this rising demand. Mahindra will introduce the XUV e8 this year and the XUV e9 in April, while Hyundai plans to introduce four new cars by 2025, starting with the Creta EV. TVS has new electric vehicles in the works for the two-wheeler market. According to the data, Malayalis are increasingly choosing electric vehicles, including cars, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers.

By the end of the year, more than two lakh electric vehicles will be on the state’s roads, according to market analysts. Government subsidies and the growth of charging infrastructure are two of the main drivers of this growing trend. Automobile manufacturers are getting ready to launch a number of new electric models in the Indian market in order to meet the growing demand. By 2025, South Korean automaker Hyundai plans to introduce four new electric cars, beginning with the eagerly awaited Creta EV. With the XUV e8 model scheduled to debut this year and the XUV e9 anticipated in April of next year, Mahindra is also expecting major releases.
