Suzuki Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota), two of Japan’s largest automakers, are growing their alliance by supplying Toyota with battery electric vehicle (BEV) SUV models. Suzuki Motor Gujarat is expected to start producing the new model in the spring of 2025. This is the first BEV in the two firms’ original equipment manufacturing (OEM) collaboration.
The electric SUV will be introduced globally, giving the SUV market a BEV option. “Suzuki will supply our first BEV to Toyota globally,” stated Toshihiro Suzuki, president of Suzuki. I am appreciative of how the companies’ cooperation has grown in this way. We will strengthen our partnerships to address social concerns, such as achieving a carbon-neutral world through a multi-pathway approach, while yet remaining competitors.
Suzuki India Unit will supply EV to Toyota
According to a Toyota representative, the world’s largest automaker plans to introduce ten battery-powered cars by 2026, including the new model. The Gujarat factory is the only location where the EV will be produced.
Toyota reported that during the first nine months of this year, it sold slightly over 108,000 battery-powered electric vehicles worldwide, which accounted for 1.5% of its total sales during that time, including sales under its luxury Lexus brand. Maruti intends to expand its Gujarat factory by adding a fourth production line that can produce 250,000 EVs annually.
It had previously stated that it intended to deliver the EV to markets throughout the world, including those in Europe and its parent company Japan.
