Tesla’s EV charging standard will be adopted by Volkswagen Group – Everything You Need to Know
The Volkswagen Group has said that it will implement the North American Charging Standard (NACS), which is being led by Elon Musk’s Tesla. According to Morningstar, the German automaker said late on Tuesday that the NACS charging outlet will be standard on all upcoming models throughout its brand portfolio, including Audi, Porsche, and Scout Motors. This will begin in the US in 2025. Volkswagen claimed that the arrangement with Tesla would give users access to the Supercharger network, which consists of over 15,000 Tesla fast-charging locations across North America.

Additionally, it stated that users may already access over 3,800 fast-charging outlets through Volkswagen and Siemens’ joint venture, Electrify America and Electrify Canada. The report also mentioned that the firms are looking for adapters for their current owners. Ford said in May 2023 that owners of its electric vehicles would soon have access to some 12,000 Tesla chargers, at first through an adaptor. From 2025 onwards, Tesla’s North American Charging Standard-compliant EV charging connection will be incorporated into Ford’s upcoming line of electric vehicles.
Major automakers have since declared plans to embrace Tesla’s charging standard, including GM, Rivian, Honda, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and, most recently, Subaru. A lower-tier luxury EV maker called Lucid declared in November that it would use the Tesla charging standard. As part of its $7.5 billion plan, the US government unveiled new measures in February to construct 5,00,000 electric vehicle chargers on US roadways by 2030. Tesla has pledged to open 7,500 of its charging stations to non-Tesla vehicles by 2024.
