Audi is expanding its electric lineup with the Q6 e-tron. It will sit between the Q4 e-tron and the recently renamed Q8 e-tron EV SUVs, as its name suggests. These first official photos show a camouflaged Q6 prototype undergoing winter testing, and Audi has released preliminary details about its new PPE platform and 800-volt electrical architecture, which should enable impressively fast charging speeds.
The Q6 e-tron, like its siblings, will be available in conventional SUV and sloped-back Sportback configurations. The squareback is shown here, and its overall proportions are typical of an Audi crossover. The front end appears to use a split-headlight design similar to that of the BMW X7, but we’re not sure how much the lighting elements will change for production.
The PPE electric platform, which stands for Premium Platform Electric, will be introduced with this model. These underpinnings feature a more powerful 800-volt electrical system and will be used in future models such as the Audi A6 e-tron. The Q6 e-tron is expected to have a standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with the Quattro badge that Audi uses for all of its AWD models. Vehicles such as the Cadillac Lyriq, the Genesis Electrified GV70, and the Lexus RZ will be competitors.
Audi has released images of a camouflaged prototype of the Q6 e-tron being tested in Northern Ireland’s snowy landscapes.
The front features a sealed-off nose flanked by a split LED headlamp setup with a trapezoidal opening in the lower fascia for the air intake. Sharp creases and a distinct shoulder line characterise the Q6 e-side tron’s profile. With sleek wraparound LED taillights and a subtle roof-mounted spoiler, the rear end looks clean and understated. Audi has not installed any phoney exhaust tips.
Among the other notable features are five-spoke cast alloy wheels, a shark-fin antenna, and roof rails. The battery-powered Q6, like the other Q models in the e-tron lineup, will be available in both SUV and Sportback (coupe) body styles. When the Q6 e-tron makes its global debut in the coming months, the automaker will reveal more information about its specifications.
