East Coast’s Largest EV Charging Hub Opens in New Jersey

Largest EV Charging Hub: A groundbreaking moment for electric vehicle infrastructure has arrived on the East Coast. EV Edison has officially opened what stands as the largest multi-class EV charging hub in the region, marking a pivotal shift in how commercial fleets approach electric transportation.

Located strategically in Kearny, New Jersey, this state-of-the-art facility isn’t just another charging station—it represents the future of logistics and transportation. With 30 high-power charging ports, each capable of delivering 180kW, this hub addresses the growing demand for reliable, high-capacity charging infrastructure that fleet operators desperately need.

Why This Location Matters

The choice of Kearny wasn’t arbitrary. Positioned near the Port of Newark, the Holland Tunnel, and critical interstate corridors, this location serves as a nexus for regional transportation. “Kearny offers the ideal mix of space and power to scale EV charging and support fleet growth,” said David Daly, President of EV Edison.

This strategic positioning enables fleet operators to integrate charging seamlessly into their existing routes, eliminating the range anxiety that has historically plagued commercial electric vehicle adoption.

More Than Just Charging: A Complete Fleet Ecosystem

What sets this facility apart from traditional charging stations is its comprehensive approach to fleet operations. The hub offers:

24/7 High-Security Access: Fleet operators can access charging around the clock, ensuring operational flexibility that matches traditional fuel stations.

Ample Truck Parking and Staging: Large commercial vehicles require substantial space, and this facility was designed with that reality in mind.

Driver Amenities: Food and beverage services, driver lounges, and flexible office space recognize that charging times require comfortable waiting areas.

Public Access: While primarily designed for commercial fleets, the facility also accommodates passenger vehicles, making it a truly multi-class operation.

Industry Partnerships Drive Success

The hub’s success stems from strategic partnerships with industry leaders. Einride, a pioneering freight technology company known for deploying electric and autonomous vehicles globally, has already established operations at the site. “This facility gives us a strategic base to grow our electric fleet in the Northeast,” said Chelsea Thompson, Director of Operations at Einride.

This partnership demonstrates how infrastructure and technology companies are collaborating to create practical solutions for fleet electrification.

Economic and Environmental Impact

The project represents more than technological advancement—it’s an economic catalyst for the region. Built on land owned by Hugo Neu Realty, the facility brings clean energy jobs and revitalized industrial use to the community.

“This is a transformative project for the region,” said Dominique Lueckenhoff, Hugo Neu Executive VP for Corporate Affairs, EHS and Sustainability. The facility’s environmental benefits extend beyond reduced emissions, contributing to improved air quality for local residents.

New Jersey officials have embraced the project as validation of the state’s leadership in clean transportation. “By making high-powered charging available to all types of fleets, projects like this are helping ensure that New Jersey remains a national leader in clean transportation,” said Christine Guhl-Sadovy, President, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

The current Phase 1 installation is designed to handle upwards of 200 heavy-duty charging sessions per day, with significant expansion planned for future phases. This scalability ensures the facility can grow with increasing demand for fleet electrification.

Timing Couldn’t Be Better

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, Kearny’s location and capacity position it perfectly to support electric transport for logistics, media, and fan mobility. This timing highlights how infrastructure investments can serve multiple purposes, supporting both everyday operations and major events.

Largest EV Charging Hub: Engineering Excellence Behind the Scenes

The project’s success required collaboration with specialized engineering firms. Milhouse, an African American-owned engineering firm, played a crucial role in bringing the vision to life. “Working alongside the EV Edison team on this transformational project was a powerful opportunity to apply our engineering expertise to the future of clean transportation,” said Wilbur C. Milhouse III, Chairman and CEO.

What This Means for Fleet Operators

For fleet operators considering electric vehicle adoption, this facility addresses many traditional concerns:

Range Anxiety: High-power charging reduces downtime significantly compared to lower-power alternatives.

Operational Integration: The facility’s services allow seamless integration into existing logistics operations.

Scalability: Future expansion phases ensure growing fleets won’t outgrow available infrastructure.

Reliability: Purpose-built for commercial use, the facility prioritizes uptime and consistency.

Looking Forward

EV Edison’s Kearny hub represents a new model for EV infrastructure development. Rather than simply installing charging stations, the company has created a comprehensive ecosystem that addresses the full spectrum of fleet operational needs.

The facility encourages fleet operators, vehicle lessors, and logistics providers to explore partnerships and reserve access. With additional capacity and services planned for future phases in Kearny and throughout the New York Metropolitan area, this represents the beginning of a broader infrastructure transformation.
