Inside the Mobis India EV Battery Plant
Mobis India Limited, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor India Limited and a global automotive component supplier, has launched its EV Battery System Assembly (BSA) Plant adjacent to Hyundai’s car manufacturing facility. Spanning 8.15 acres, the plant boasts an initial capacity of 36,000 battery units per year, scalable up to 75,000 units to meet the surging demand for electric vehicles in India.
The facility is set to create 255 direct and indirect jobs, further supporting the local economy. The first vehicle to benefit from these high-performance, India-assembled battery packs will be the Hyundai Creta Electric, underscoring Hyundai’s commitment to localizing EV production.
Advanced Technology and Future-Ready Production
Currently, the plant assembles advanced NMC (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt) battery packs, with plans to support LFP (Lithium-Iron-Phosphate) battery production soon. This flexibility ensures Mobis India can adapt to evolving battery technologies and market needs.
At the plant’s inauguration, T R B Rajaa, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Industries, highlighted the facility’s role in advancing the state’s and the nation’s clean mobility ambitions. Park Ki Chul, Managing Director of Mobis India, called the plant “a strategic leap forward in supporting India’s transition to clean and sustainable mobility.”
