The highly awaited Tata Curvv EV coupe SUV went on sale today. It is priced between Rs. 17.49 lakh and Rs. 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Coupe SUV, which will go on sale next month on September 2, 2024, was unveiled alongside the electric car. Regarding the Curvv EV, it is presently the most costly electric car made by the domestic automaker and sits above Tata’s best-selling Nexon EV.
The Citroen Basalt will soon compete with the Tata Curvv EV as the first Made-in-India Coupe SUV to enter the sub-Rs 20 lakh market. Similar to Tata Motors’ other high-end EVs, the new Curvv EV is offered in three personas: Creative, Accomplished, and Empowered. In contrast, four identities are assigned to the Curvv ICE: Smart, Pure, Creative, and Accomplished.
Tata Curvv EV: Design and Specifications
Production models of the Tata Curvv coupe SUVs, both in ICE and EV variants, have a similar appearance. They closely resemble the concept form of the vehicle that was unveiled in April 2022. Both have the same powerful features and sculpted front end as the current generation of Tata automobiles, along with end-to-end LED daytime running lights that have the welcome feature. The two also frequently have LED headlamps and coupe SUV body styles. The sloping roof, which connects to the rear section, the high-mounted spoiler, and the LED taillamps that match the front lighting are all distinctive features of this car. Additionally, both have flush-fitting door handles the first being unique to Tata.
The inside trim options black and burgundy for the ICE and electric grey and white for the EV are the primary differences between the two cars’ cabin designs, which are otherwise quite similar. A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster (both made by Harman), a nine-speaker JBL music system, and a voice-activated panoramic sunroof are among the goodies listed on the simple-looking dashboard. A redesigned 4-spoke multifunction steering wheel with an illuminated emblem is also included, along with ambient lighting.
The Arcade.EV app suite, which has more than 20 apps, is also available for the Curvv EV. The Curvv EV uses the Acti.ev platform as well and has two battery options: 45 kWh and 55 kWh. A 123 kW liquid-cooled PMS motor is powered by these batteries. There are 165 horsepower in the motor. The manufacturer asserts that the wheels’ 2500 Nm of torque, on the other hand, guarantees rapid accelerations—0-100 kmph in roughly 8.6 seconds.
The 45 kWh model is expected to have a 502 km stated range, whilst the 55 kWh variant can go 585 kilometres on a single charge. Additionally, the Curvv EV supports 1.2C rapid charging rates, so you can top off the battery from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes if you have access to a DC charger of 70 kW or more. The business further states that a range of up to 150 kilometres may be achieved with only 15 minutes of charging.
Two petrol and one diesel engine options, as well as the choice of a dual-clutch automatic or DCA gearbox, are available for the Curvv coupe SUV. Of course, the new in-house built 1.2-liter GDI turbocharged petrol engine with variable geometry turbocharger is the star of the show. It has a max torque of 250 Nm and is available with an automatic or manual gearbox. The new 1.5-liter diesel engine will also be available for the ICE Curvv.
