Tata Punch EV vs. Hyundai Inster: Comparison of features, stats, and range

Hyundai unveiled the Inster, their smallest EV SUV, recently. The Inster, a battery-operated Casper mini SUV, debuted at the just-ended 2024 Busan International Mobility Show in South Korea. The Inster appears to be a very attractive Electric Vehicle for the Indian market based on its appearance.

If it is introduced in India, Tata Punch will be its main rival. Hyundai has not yet stated if it will introduce the Inster in India. Let’s see how it compares to the Punch, which is entirely electric.

Tata Punch EV vs. Hyundai Inster: Features and Specifications

Punch and Inster are offered in two variants: Standard and Long Range. Both Punch EV versions have smaller battery packs. It’s interesting to see that the Punch has a longer range than the Inster. With an output of 96 horsepower and 147 Nm of torque, the Hyundai Inster Standard model sports a more potent electric motor. By contrast, the Punch Standard model produces peak torque of 114 Nm and horsepower of 79.

Punch, on the other hand, has greater output numbers for long-range versions, with 119 horsepower and 190 Nm of torque. 115 PS and 147 Nm are changd by the inster long range variant.

The Punch EV has a respectable array of features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and a number of linked car tech options, including video streaming, through the Arcade.ev suite. However, Hyundai has not yet disclosed the precise features that come with Inster. It provides certain innovations, such as vehicle-to-load support for charging external items.

Furthermore, Inster takes pride in offering Level 2 ADAS, which includes functions such as Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear (PCA-R). Punch EV models come with 3.3kW and 7.2kW basic AC chargers; Hyundai offers a more potent 11kW model.

The Punch base variant with the 7.2kW charger takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to fully charge, compared to about 4 hours for the Inster Standard variant. Punch takes 5 hours and Inster takes 4 hours 35 minutes for their Long Range versions. Furthermore, Punch only supports 50 kW DC fast charging; Inster offers 120 kW DC fast charging capability. The Punch EV takes 56 minutes to fully charge its battery, but the Inster takes 30 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent.
