MG Comet EV-Based Baojun Yep Plus Electric SUV Unveiled

A new, rebranded Baojun Yep SUV is being developed by MG Motors for the Indian market; it is anticipated to be on sale in 2025. For those looking for a small, simple-to-drive electric SUV, Baojun has introduced the new 5-door EV in China just after the test mule of the impending Yep Plus SUV appeared online. This new five-door electric SUV, along with the smaller three-door Yep EV, will go on sale in China by March 2024, using the same platform as the MG Comet EV.

Baojun has released a new batch of photos, signaling the impending launch. In China, the starting price might be roughly 100,000 yuan, or Rs 11.54 lakh. The MG-badged model may retail for between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 15 lakh in India. A competitive price point can be attained and costs can be decreased with a high degree of localization.

MG Comet-Based Baojun Yep Plus: Specifications

The 5-door Yep Plus shares a towering, boxy design with the 3-door Yep. Yep Plus is accepted on both off-road tracks and city streets thanks to its adaptable design language. One feature that instantly attracts attention is the distinctive style of the LED headlamps. They match the SUV’s general profile and give it a futuristic, unique touch. Significant modifications to the Yep Plus’s length and wheelbase have made it possible for it to have rear doors, allowing it to resemble Baojun’s three-door Yep.

The Yep Plus’s overall length is 2,560 mm, or over 600 mm longer than that of its 3.4-meter sister, thanks to a 450 mm longer wheelbase. The width and height of the larger Yep SUV are 75 and 5 mm, respectively, more than those of the smaller Yep SUV.

Despite Baojun’s silence over the battery’s specifications, there are rumours that the Yep Plus’s battery will be bigger than the Yep’s 28.1kWh unit. This notion is supported by the total range statistics: on the CLTC cycle, the Yep Plus has an astounding 401 km, which is greater than the Yep’s 303 km.

The engine that gives the Yep Plus life is a modest 101 horsepower electric motor that is mounted neatly on the back axle. Baojun can travel up to 150 kph.
