India’s Largest EV Share Remains in Uttar Pradesh, the Government Notifies the Parliament

Uttar Pradesh (UP) still has the highest concentration of electric cars in the nation, according to a recent statement made by Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State (MoS) of India’s Heavy Industries, to the Lok Sabha. This was made clear when the minister provided a list of EV sales per state in India. The list appeared to show that UP accounted for the majority of EV sales.

The minister’s response (https://sansad.in/ls) became apparent when a parliamentarian questioned the minister over the nation’s EV and hybrid EV sales situation, with a particular emphasis on EV sales in Bihar. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways published information on the percentage of hybrid and electric vehicles in use nationwide as well as total sales, which was based on data accessible on the e-Vahan portal.

The statistics presented by the parliament regarding the usage of electric and hybrid vehicles in 2023 reveal that the states with the largest usage of hybrid and electric vehicles are Delhi (3,34,039), Karnataka (3,98, 237), Maharashtra (5,16,812), and Uttar Pradesh (7.75, 537). On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh leads the states in the number of electric battery-operated vehicles (BOV).
