Globally, Kia has ambitious intentions for the EV market. It features the design for a specific range of new electric cars, ranging from EV1 to EV9. Particularly, the EV6 and EV9 are already available for purchase. The company has recently introduced the new Kia EV5 in China. The first worldwide strategic product from Kia to be unveiled in China is called the EV5.
China launches the Kia EV5
At the current 21st China Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, Kia announced the launch of the EV5. The starting price of the EV5 is 149,800 yuan, or about USD 20,800 or Rs 17.30 lakh. The prices have dropped from pre-sales by about 10,000 yuan (1,400 USD). In August of this year, Kia began pre-sales of the EV5 in China.
The beginning price of 159,800 yuan (22,100 USD) was published at that time. It makes sense—any EV producer would be wise to invest in China. The nation has become the global leader in the electric vehicle business. China has seen a faster uptake of electric vehicles than other parts of the world due to its leadership in battery manufacturing and related technology.
The Kia EV5 will be crucial in assisting the business in reaching its EV objectives. By 2026, Kia wants to have sold one million electric cars annually. By the end of this decade, the number will rise to 1.6 million units annually. EV5 is anticipated to produce substantial sales volumes and is reasonably priced. Other markets will soon get access to it as well. The EV5 is positioned as a family-friendly SUV with the best possible balance of power, range, and advanced technology.
Features and characteristics of the Kia EV5
The foundation of the Kia EV5 is the E-GMP platform. Numerous new vehicles from Hyundai and Kia are based on this specific electric vehicle platform. A 160-kW motor is powered by a 64.2 kWh battery pack in the Chinese EV5. The battery pack is provided by China-based firm BYD and uses LFP chemistry. The certified range of models equipped with a 64.2 kWh battery is 530 kilometres.
The long-range EV5 model has an 88-kWh battery pack. With both variants, the 160 kW motor is the same. The certified range is 720 km. The long-range model’s price has not yet been disclosed by Kia. Kia had also unveiled a long-range AWD variant earlier this year. We’re not sure if China will see the introduction of that model, though. A specialised heat pump system used in the EV5 lowers the possibility of battery-related fire problems.
The Kia EV5 boasts a well-rounded feature set and an appealing visual design. The minimalistic interior design increases the feeling of comfort and spaciousness. The integrated dual screens and the four-spoke steering wheel with a gear lever are features that draw the eye right away.
Because EV5 offers a wide range of technologies, including ADAS, users can feel secure about safety. Seven airbags, L2+ level assist driving, remote control smart parking, and semi-automatic lane shifting are all included in the safety kit.
