Jeep is considering its options before deciding on its India EV approach

Before deciding on its intentions for the domestic market, Jeep, an Indian SUV manufacturer, is studying various options with an eye toward electric vehicles. Over the next three years, Jeep India, a subsidiary of the Stellantis automotive business, has stated that it plans to localize more than 90% of its small SUV, the Jeep Compass. 

At Ranjangaon in the Pune district, the business and Tata Motors jointly own a production facility. “We are now researching options for electrifying (vehicles) since the consumer is the center of attention, and his or her wants must be met. 

Globally, the EV portfolio has significantly increased. Aditya Jairaj, Head of the company’s India Operations and Deputy Managing Director of Stellantis, told PTI on the occasion of the launch of the new Jeep Compass nine-speed Diesel in a 4×2 configuration that “We are evaluating various options for India.”

Jeep’s EV Strategy for India

The car was created and introduced only in India. He emphasized that Jeep’s electrification in India is a key point and that it will eventually happen, but said that the firm is still finalizing its EV strategy at this time. 

The company says that localization is a key area of concentration for it and that it plans to increase localization for the next generation of goods from the present level of 70% to 90%. He said, “It’s not just localizing for India; it’s localizing for India and for the world.” He asserted that exports will be a key element of the company’s long-term strategy because they give the company scale and a cost-competitive advantage. 

Currently, the company offers four different models: the Compass, Meridian, Wrangler, and Grand Cherokee. Out of these four, it exports the Jeep Compass and Jeep Meridian, among other products, to countries like Australia and Japan. At the moment, developed markets like Japan, Australia, and New Zealand are receiving these exports.

Additionally, these vehicles will be exported to non-right-hand drive markets, which presents the corporation with numerous opportunities, he continued.
