Acura ZDX, a new SUV from Honda’s high-performance brand, will be the first electric car with Google Built-in, which supports native Android apps and over-the-air software updates. Popular Google apps like Google Assistant, Google Maps, and more will be available to Acura ZDX owners in the Google Store.
According to reports, Google Built-in refers to the integration of Google Automotive Services directly into the vehicle, as opposed to Android Auto, which simply mirrors the smartphone’s display on the vehicle’s infotainment screen. Furthermore, it differs from the Android Automotive OS, which uses Android to run the full operating system.
Honda Acura ZDX will be the first electric vehicle in 2023
Honda claims that the Acura ZDX will come with an “enhanced version” of Google Maps, which will give drivers of electric vehicles better route planning for charging and information on the locations of charging stations along the way to cut down on travel time. When the destination is a DC fast charging station, Google Maps can also begin battery preconditioning and estimate the required charging time-based on the destination.
Although some of its vehicles previously had Android software that was specially integrated, Honda did not fully utilise Google’s services. With Google Built-in, new cars will use Google Maps for navigation, Google Assistant can operate the air conditioner, and Google Play can be used for music listening. Google Built-in is already included with the 2024 Honda Accord.
In particular, the Acura ZDX will continue to support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Acura ZDX will be the first vehicle to only be sold online, according to Honda’s announcement.
It should be noted that Honda’s present electric vehicle strategy heavily depends on partnerships with other producers. The Ultium electric platform from General Motors will serve as the foundation for the company’s first two electric vehicles, the Acura ZDX and the Honda Prologue. Honda also assisted Sony with the launch of its own auto brand, Afeela, which is scheduled to release its debut vehicle in the United States in 2026.
