After facing multiple delays and setbacks, Simple Energy is finally preparing to launch its Simple One electric scooter. Production has commenced, and the first unit rolled off the factory earlier this month. The official launch date is set for May 23rd, and Simple Energy is busy assembling scooters for deliveries. The Simple One electric scooter will compete with established rivals such as the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, TVS iQube ST, and relatively newer entrants like the Hero Vida V1 Pro. The Indian startup is focusing on providing an impressive range to alleviate range anxiety.
Interested buyers can book the Simple One electric scooter for a refundable amount of Rs. 1,947. The complete pricing details will be revealed during the launch event on May 23rd.
Unlike Ola Electric, which opted for a curvaceous design, Simple Energy has chosen a design with sharp details and edgy lines.
The scooter’s overall design is well-balanced, with a sleek triangular headlight and LED turn indicators. The tail lights seem to draw inspiration from the Apache RR 310. Initially, there were talks about a fixed 4.8 kWh battery and two removable batteries, totaling 6.4 kWh.
However, the production model now features a 30L under-seat storage. Nonetheless, the 4.8 kWh battery remains the largest among electric scooters in India, providing Simple Energy with a claimed range of 236 km. This surpasses the Ola S1 Pro, which currently holds the title for the highest claimed range at 181 km.
Other notable specifications include a 0-40 km/h acceleration time of 2.77 seconds, a top speed of 105 km/h, peak power of 8.5 kW (11.3 bhp), continuous power of 4.5 kW (6.03 bhp), and 72 Nm torque from its mid-mounted motor. The scooter uses a belt drive system and holds AIS 156 Amendment 3 certification from ICAT, which ensures safety compliance for vehicles with electric powertrains.
The Simple One electric scooter is available in four color options: Brazen Black, Namma Red, Azure Blue, and Grace White. It features a touchscreen infotainment display with advanced functionalities such as navigation, music controls, call alerts and actions, remote access, geo-fencing, OTA updates, and remote locking.
Simple Energy also promises a One Loop charging network, although it has yet to be implemented. The scooter is equipped with conventional telescopic front forks, 90/90-12 tires mounted on 12″ alloy wheels, disc brakes at both ends with patented combi brakes, and more. Impressively, the scooter weighs 115 kg when wet, highlighting its lightweight construction.
