Auto Expo 2023: Here are the top 5 EVs showcased during the Event

Automobile manufacturers all over the world have begun to shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles. Something similar is happening in the Indian market. The effects of this transition can also be seen at the Auto Expo 2023, where all of the major brands will be displaying EVs and future concept models.

The all-electric Tata Harrier EV debuted at the current Expo. It gets new styling cues from the facelifted model, more tech, and, most importantly, a greener heart. The Harrier EV’s restyled front fascia features a closed-off grille with an LED strip running the length of it. The restyled bumpers below it have sharper housings for the new triangular headlamps.

There have been no significant changes to the EV’s side profile. However, because this is a near-production version, the door handles have been removed for a flush look, and the alloy wheels have been restyled as well. Moving on to the rear, the Harrier EV has more sharply styled tail lamps that are now connected by an LED strip. A bold ‘HARRIER.EV’ badging and a chunky rear bumper with a silver skid plate are also included.

Hyundai launched the Ioniq 5 crossover at Auto Expo 2023 for an introductory price of 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for the first 500 customers. This makes it 16 lakh less expensive than the Kia EV6. The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s second electric vehicle for India, following the Kona EV, which has been available since 2019. Bookings for the crossover have already begun at 1 lakh.

The Ioniq 5 has a retro design with sharp lines, flat surfaces, and an SUV-like stance, but with highly raked windscreens. The headlights and taillights have a pixelated appearance, and the 20-inch aero-optimized wheels have a turbine-like design. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available in three colours: Gravity Gold Matte, Optic White, and Midnight Black Pearl. The interior of the Ioniq 5 is minimalistic, with a flat floor, flexible seats, and a movable centre console, as well as upholstery made from recycled plastic and eco-friendly leather.

The BYD Seal is an electric sedan inspired by the Ocean X concept and featuring Ocean Aesthetics styling. It is currently on display at the brand’s pavilion at the 2023 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. BYD (Build Your Dreams) of China is the world’s largest EV manufacturer, and it recently introduced the Atto 3 electric SUV.

The Seal was on display at the motor show alongside the BYD e6 electric MPV and Atto 3 electric SUV, and its India launch has been confirmed for this holiday season. The BYD Seal competes in international markets against the likes of the mighty Tesla Model 3 and is packed with features both inside and out to be a modern package with little to no compromise.

The vehicle is built on a dedicated skateboard platform and has a futuristic exterior design that includes a forward-dipping hood, sharp headlamps, a coupe-like roofline, and sporty alloy wheels. The five-seater electric sedan is available in single- and dual-motor configurations, with the dual-motor AWD variant producing 530 hp and accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds.

Kia debuted the EV9 concept SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo. It teases Kia’s flagship all-electric SUV, which will be nearly as big as the Range Rover. The EV9 is expected to enter production around the end of 2023. The new EV9 has a squarish overall appearance and a new interpretation of the brand’s signature ‘tiger nose’ grille, with a blanked-out panel housing LED light modules and a Z-shaped headlamp cluster. It has a stance that is upright, with crisp lines, flat surfaces, and a large glasshouse with a sharp kink post the C-pillar. The rear has unusual vertical LED taillights and a pronounced bumper.

Certain design elements, such as rear-hinged doors, the absence of a B-pillar, the headlamp cluster, and flared wheel arches, will not be included in the production model. The EV9 is nearly the same size as the Range Rover, measuring 4,929mm in length, 2,055mm in width, and 1,790mm in height. It has a 3,100mm wheelbase, which is the longest possible on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) platform, which also underpins the Kia EV6 sold in India.
